Basketball Recap: Isaiah Wall's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Canyon Springs over Orange Vista

Canyon Springs lost against Orange Vista back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Canyon Springs Cougars took a 65-52 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Orange Vista Coyotes. While losing is never fun, the Cougars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 582nd, while the Coyotes are ranked 157th).

Canyon Springs lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Isaiah Wall, who almost dropped a double-double on 11 points and nine boards. That's the most points Wall has posted since back in December of 2024. Josiah McMillan was another key player, going 5 of 8 en route to 11 points.

Even though they lost, Canyon Springs smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive boards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Orange Vista only pulled down nine offensive rebounds.

Orange Vista got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Tommy Smith out in front who went 6 for 13 on his way to 14 points in addition to five assists and five rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Eric Wooten, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten boards.

Canyon Springs has traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last eight contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 11-12 record this season. As for Orange Vista, their win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 17-6.

Canyon Springs didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 62-59 defeat against JW North on the 3rd. As for Orange Vista, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 70-56 victory against Moreno Valley on the 3rd.
