Basketball Recap: Maria Ribeiro's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Hendrick Hudson over Pelham Memorial

Hendrick Hudson lost against Pelham Memorial back in December of 2023 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. The Hendrick Hudson Sailors took a 60-46 bruising from the Pelham Memorial Pelicans. The Sailors have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Hendrick Hudson's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Maria Ribeiro, who posted 14 points. The dominant performance gave Ribeiro a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Kate Stratton, who had six points and seven rebounds.

Even though they lost, Hendrick Hudson smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive rebounds in four consecutive games dating back to last season.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Pelham Memorial to victory, but perhaps none more so than Valendena Arakas, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and ten rebounds. Taylor Green was another key player, dropping a double-double on 20 points and ten rebounds.

Hendrick Hudson now has a losing record at 1-2. As for Pelham Memorial, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 2-0.

Hendrick Hudson wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 64-36 loss against Tappan Zee on the 11th. As for Pelham Memorial, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 56-47 victory against John Jay on the 12th.
