Basketball Game Preview: Fairland Dragons vs. Wheelersburg Pirates

The Fairland Dragons are taking a road trip to face off against the Wheelersburg Pirates at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Fairland has 13 straight victories, Wheelersburg has four straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the court.

On Saturday, Fairland strolled past South Webster with points to spare, taking the game 65-49.

Meanwhile, Wheelersburg came up short against Ironton on Saturday and fell 67-60. While losing is never fun, the Pirates can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 308th, while the Fighting Tigers are ranked 105th).

Fairland pushed their record up to 19-1 with the win, which was their eighth straight at home. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.6 points over those games. As for Wheelersburg, their loss dropped their record down to 7-11.

Fairland and Wheelersburg were neck-and-neck when the teams last played back in February of 2024, but Fairland came up empty-handed after a 76-75 defeat. Can Fairland avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
