Softball Preview: Lakeside Dragons vs. Edgewood Warriors
Lakeside is 2-8 against Edgewood since May of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Lakeside Dragons will head out on the road to square off against the Edgewood Warriors at 4:30 p.m.
Lakeside is is headed into Wednesday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their 17th straight game dating back to last season on Tuesday. They lost 29-19 to Grand Valley. One positive for Lakeside, at least, is that this was the most points they've scored all season.
Caylee Carlson led a balanced group of hitters, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Rosie Briones, who scored four runs and stole four bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
Meanwhile, Edgewood got themselves on the board against Independence on Tuesday, but Independence never followed suit. They walked away with a 4-0 win over the Blue Devils. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Edgewood.
Independence's batters probably weren't too happy with Lucianna Paolillo, who pitched a no hitter and racked up 14 Ks (she gave up three walks). Paolillo has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in seven consecutive pitching appearances.
On the hitting side, Faith Vencill was excellent, going 1-for-3 with a triple, two RBI, and a run.
Lakeside's loss dropped their record down to 0-13. As for Edgewood, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine games, which provided a nice bump to their 10-3 record this season.
