Football Game Preview: Gates County Red Barons vs. East Carteret Mariners

After each having a week off, the Gates County Red Barons and the East Carteret Mariners will shake off the rust and duke it out on the 14th. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

East Carteret will be up against a hot Gates County team: the squad just extended their winning streak to three. The Red Barons breezed past Camden County to the tune of 34-6 on Friday. The score at the end of the third wound up being the final score as the Red Barons just coasted through the last quarter.

Meanwhile, East Carteret never let their opponents score on Friday. They took their game with ease, bagging a 35-0 victory over Pamlico County.

East Carteret's win came from a few key players Gates County will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Luke McIntosh, who threw for 305 yards and three TDs while completing 78.9% of his passes. He has become a key player for East Carteret: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least 250 passing yards, but 3-4 otherwise. The Mariners' leading receiver Jackson Greene was McIntosh's top target yet again, picking up 148 receiving yards and one touchdown.

The win got Gates County back to even at 5-5. As for East Carteret, the victory also got them back to even at 5-5.

Gates County took a serious blow against East Carteret in their previous meeting back in November of 2016, falling 56-0. Can the Red Barons avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
