The Meeker Cowboys came into Friday's contest having lost three straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They had just enough and edged Gunnison out 44-42. That's another feather in the cap for Meeker, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Meeker's win on Friday was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Ainsley Selle, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 11 rebounds. Selle continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last four games she's played. Rylee Sullivan was another key contributor, scoring 15 points along with five rebounds and two steals.
When it comes to explaining why Gunnison lost, one person who can't be blamed is Kylee McDougal. Despite the final result, she scored 14 points along with five assists and four steals. Another player making a difference was Kaylee Vincent, who scored 12 points along with five rebounds.
Gunnison struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only three offensive rebounds. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Meeker pulled down 12 offensive rebounds.
The victory got Meeker back to even at 8-8. As for Gunnison, they dropped their record down to 5-11 with that loss, which was their third straight on the road.
Meeker didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 49-45 defeat vs. Cedaredge on the 10th. Gunnison has also already played their next matchup, a 54-42 defeat against Roaring Fork on the 10th.
