Baseball Game Preview: Hilltop Lancers vs. Sweetwater Red Devils

The Hilltop Lancers will head out to square off against the Sweetwater Red Devils at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The last seven games Hilltop has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

Hilltop will bounce into Wednesday's match after beating Otay Ranch, who they had gone 2-7 against in their nine prior meetings. The Lancers skirted past the Mustangs 7-5.

Meanwhile, Sweetwater came into Friday's contest having lost five straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-3 win over Chula Vista on Friday.

Daniel Vidal was excellent, going 1-for-4 with three stolen bases and one run. Sweetwater is 4-1 when Vidal posts two or more stolen bases, but 5-10 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Jayden Rodriguez, who went 1-for-5 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

Hilltop's victory bumped their record up to 7-14. As for Sweetwater, their win bumped their record up to 9-11.

Hilltop came out on top in a nail-biter against Sweetwater in their previous matchup back in May of 2022, sneaking past 4-2. Will the Lancers repeat their success, or do the Red Devils have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
