Softball Game Preview: Mariner Tritons vs. Lehigh Lightning

Mariner is on a three-game streak of home losses, and Lehigh an eight-game streak of away losses dating back to last season. However, someone's due for a change in luck on Monday. The Mariner Tritons will welcome the Lehigh Lightning at 7:00 p.m. Lehigh took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Mariner, who comes in off a win.

On Thursday, Mariner needed a bit of extra time to put away Fort Myers. They had just enough and edged out the Green Wave 8-6. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Tritons have posted since February 17th.

Gabi Winters made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out 12 batters over eight innings while giving up three earned (and three unearned) runs off eight hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in ten consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with one run and one RBI.

In other batting news, Mariner let Morgan Tucker and Rylie Moore run wild. Tucker went 2-for-4 with two runs, while Moore went 1-for-3 with two runs and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Brooke Parramore, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI.

Mariner kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Meanwhile, Lehigh lost 17-2 to Dunbar on Monday.

Mariner has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a massive bump to their 11-8 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.2 runs on average over those games. As for Lehigh, their loss dropped their record down to 0-10.

Everything went Mariner's way against Lehigh in their previous matchup back in March of 2022, as Mariner made off with a 10-3 win. Do the Tritons have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Lightning turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
