Softball Game Preview: Laguna Acoma Hawks vs. Northwest Falcons

The Laguna Acoma Hawks will square off against the Northwest Falcons at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday. Laguna Acoma is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 13.1 runs per game this season.

Last Thursday, Laguna Acoma made easy work of Navajo Pine and carried off a 17-6 win. The Hawks haven't had any issues with the Warriors recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive victory against them.

Ciandra Lucero made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Those eight strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

In other batting news, Laguna Acoma got a massive performance out of Madelyn Brown, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with five stolen bases, two runs, and one double. With that strong performance, Brown is now averaging an impressive 1.2 stolen bases per game. Another player making a difference was Kaylee Lorenzo, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Laguna Acoma was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .536. They are 13-2 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Meanwhile, Northwest was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their 37th straight loss dating back to last season. They lost 24-2 to Hozho Academy.

Laguna Acoma pushed their record up to 13-7 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 18.0 runs over those games. As for Northwest, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-19.
