Softball Game Preview: Princeton Tigers vs. Evansville Memorial Tigers

Princeton is 0-8 against Evansville Memorial since April of 2015 but things could change on Thursday. Princeton will host Evansville Memorial at 5:30 p.m. Princeton has given up an average of 9.3 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Princeton is headed into Thursday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fifth straight game on Monday. They came up short against Barr-Reeve, falling 11-0. The contest marked the first time this season in which the Tigers were not able to get on the board.

Evansville Memorial came out on top against Evansville Harrison on Wednesday thanks in part to the team's impressive 13-run fourth inning. The Tigers were the clear victors by a 16-2 margin over the Warriors. The Tigers haven't had any issues with the Warriors recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive win against them.

Brianna Canaan made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out 11 batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. Those 11 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.

In other batting news, Mallory Wollenmann was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Madison Thomas, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

Evansville Memorial kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 20 hits. They are 5-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

Evansville Memorial pushed their record up to 6-5 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Princeton, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-8.
