Preview: Wapato Wolves vs. Toppenish Wildcats
Wapato is 8-2 against Toppenish since January of 2019, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Wapato Wolves will be home for the holidays to greet the Toppenish Wildcats at 6:00 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: both teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Last Friday, Wapato was fully in charge, breezing past Goldendale 73-12 at home. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Wapato.
Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, Toppenish's good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. They fell to Grandview 62-58.
Toppenish's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Tatiana Camacho, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and 13 rebounds, and Jewelisa Landa who scored 20 points along with five rebounds. That's the first time this season that Landa scored 15 or more points. Adelaide Norman was another key contributor, scoring two points along with five steals.
Wapato pushed their record up to 2-0 with that win, which was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 75.0 points per game. As for Toppenish, their loss dropped their record down to 3-1.
Wapato strolled past Toppenish in their previous matchup back in February by a score of 88-72. Will Wapato repeat their success, or does Toppenish have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
