Baseball Recap: Liberty Turns Things Around After Road Loss

There's no place like home for Liberty, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Wednesday. They came out on top against the Chesnee Eagles by a score of 8-5 on Thursday. This was a revenge game for the Red Devils: when they faced off against the Eagles on Monday, they had to take a 4-1 loss.

Carson Garrick was a major factor no matter where he played. He struck out six batters over 6.2 innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off nine hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April. He was even better at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. He has become a key player for Liberty: the team is undefeated when he posts at least three RBI, but 9-12 otherwise.

Garrick wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was T.J. Borow, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and one run. Borow is becoming a predictor of Liberty's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is 5-1 (and 8-11 when he doesn't). Another was Austin Cade, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one RBI.

Liberty's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-12. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.7 runs over those games. As for Chesnee, their defeat was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 10-1 and their overall record down to 16-10.

Liberty didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, an 8-5 victory against Buford on the 6th. As for Chesnee, they have also already played their next contest, a 9-2 win against Central on the 6th.
