Football Game Preview: Vail Christian Saints vs. West Grand Mustangs

The Vail Christian Saints will take on the West Grand Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Vail Christian managed to keep up with Mancos until halftime on Saturday, but things quickly went downhill from there. The Saints came up short against the Bluejays, falling 60-38.

Meanwhile, West Grand entered their tilt with Soroco on Friday with five consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with six. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Rams 56-0. The Mustangs' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Vail Christian better keep an eye on Blake Terryberry. He was instrumental in West Grand's win, throwing for 198 yards and three touchdowns while completing 83.3% of his passes, and also punching in one rushing score. The dominant performance also gave Terryberry a new career-high in passer rating (163.2). Landon Lockhart was another key player, rushing for 85 yards and one TD on only five carries.

Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something West Grand proved: they limited Soroco to a paltry 2.3 yards per carry. While two picked up at least seven total tackles, Terryberry stood above the rest. He threw for 198 yards and three touchdowns while completing 83.3% of his passes, and also punched in one rushing score. West Grand didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 13.1.

Vail Christian's defeat dropped their record down to 3-3. As for West Grand, their win bumped their record up to 6-1.
