Softball Recap: Doral Academy Picks Up 27th Straight Win at Home

Doral Academy extended their postseason success on Tuesday against Monarch. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Knights a 10-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Firebirds, who have now won 23 matches by six runs or more so far this season.

Meagan Villazon was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out ten over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in 11 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. That stolen base was her first of the season.

In other batting news, Sarah Breaux was a standout: she went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and one triple. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season. Another player making a difference was Anabela Abdullah, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.

Doral Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .462. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .348 or higher in seven consecutive contests.

Doral Academy pushed their record up to 28-1 with the victory, which was their 27th straight at home dating back to last season. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Monarch, the defeat snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 12-11 record.

As of now, neither Doral Academy nor the Knights have any future games scheduled.
