Preview: Troup Tigers vs. West Rusk Raiders
Troup is 0-7 against West Rusk since November of 2014 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Troup Tigers will be playing at home against the West Rusk Raiders at 7:30 p.m. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Troup comes in on seven and West Rusk on three.
Last Friday, Troup beat Arp 35-28.
Trae Davis got back to being his usual excellent self, as he picked up 205 receiving yards and three touchdowns. Davis' longest reception was for an incredible 76 yards. Troup also got a significant boost from Brett Wells, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 82 yards.
Meanwhile, West Rusk made easy work of Grand Saline on Thursday and carried off a 41-19 victory. The result was nothing new for West Rusk, who have now won four matchups by 20 points or more so far this season.
Noah Murphy was on fire: he rushed for 191 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 10.1 yards per carry. Cole Jackson was another key contributor, rushing for 107 yards and a touchdown on only 12 carries.
Troup's win was their fourth straight on the road, which bumped their overall record up to 7-0. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 0-7 White Oak and 2-5 Buffalo (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 33.5% over those games). West Rusk has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 5-2 record this season.
Keep an eye on the end zone in Friday's game as both teams haven't had much trouble getting there this season. Troup commands a daunting offense this season, having averaged 6.9 touchdowns per game. However, it's not like West Rusk struggles in that department as they've been averaging 5.4 per game. With these two high-octane teams facing off on Friday, fans should be in for an exciting offensive matchup.
