Basketball Recap: Anderson Valley Panthers vs. Point Arena Pirates
Anderson Valley lost against Point Arena back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Anderson Valley Panthers had to suffer through a 65-31 loss at the hands of the Point Arena Pirates. While losing is never fun, the Panthers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 1320th, while the Pirates are ranked 579th).
Point Arena was led to victory by Tosh Mouton and Fernando Lopez. Mouton dropped a double-double on 16 points and 16 rebounds, while Lopez went 6 for 14 on his way to 17 points and eight boards. Lopez's evening made it nine games in a row in which he has scored at least 17 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Cody Chavez, who posted eight points along with six boards and three steals.
Anderson Valley has traveled a rocky road recently having lost ten of their last 13 matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-16 record this season. As for Point Arena, the victory was the eighth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 18-3.
Coming up, a feisty cat fight will be fought when the Panthers take on the Bearcats at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Point Arena, they won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Round Valley at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday. Point Arena knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past eight games -- so hopefully Round Valley likes a good challenge.
