Softball Recap: Faith Mallak and Olivia Cardinal Secure Win for Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted

Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted hadn't done well against Maple Lake recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Lakers' pitcher stepped up to hand the Irish a 10-0 shutout. The Lakers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three games by seven runs or more this season.

Olivia Cardinal and Faith Mallak did most of the damage at the plate: Cardinal went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs, while Mallak went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most hits Cardinal has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Breckyn Jonell, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .391. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .350 or higher in four consecutive matches.

Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted's win bumped their record up to 4-1. As for Maple Lake, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 2-1.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted will host Annandale at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Maple Lake, they will challenge Kimball at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
