Softball Recap: Independence Has No Trouble Against Central

Independence got themselves on the board against Central on Thursday, but Central never followed suit. They were the clear victors by a 14-0 margin over the Bobcats. The Patriots might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matchups by ten runs or more this season.

Nailea Lopez Flores made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out eight over five innings pitched. Lopez Flores was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in doubles (two).

In other batting news, Mariana Perez Vargas was a standout: she went 1-for-3 with four runs, one triple, and one RBI. Those four runs gave her a new career-high. Genevieve De La Cruz was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.

Independence's victory bumped their record up to 9-2. As for Central, they are on a 19-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-14.

Looking ahead, Independence will host Ironwood at 3:45 p.m. on Monday. As for Central, they are taking a road trip to challenge Crismon at 3:45 p.m. on Monday. The Bobcats' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Rattlers have averaged an impressive 11.7 runs per game this season.
