Football Game Preview: Ozona Lions vs. Colorado Wolves

The Ozona Lions will challenge the Colorado Wolves at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Ozona has seven straight wins, Colorado has 12 straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Ozona will bounce into Friday's game after beating Sonora, who they had gone 2-7 against in their nine prior meetings. The Lions took their matchup on Friday with ease, bagging a 57-12 victory over the Broncos. The Lions might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six contests by 42 points or more this season.

Christian Villarreal was his usual excellent self, rushing for 410 yards and six scores while picking up 12.1 yards per carry. He really tore up the turf during one magnificent 73-yard run. Another player making a difference was Michael Preddy, who threw for 115 yards and one touchdown.

Meanwhile, Colorado played a tough game on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were dealt a 61-27 defeat at the hands of Forsan. The Wolves were already down big by the end of the third quarter and they stayed that way after failing to score in the fourth.

Despite the loss, Colorado saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Ace Mejia threw for 252 yards and a pair of TDs while completing 72.4% of his passes, and also rushed for 63 yards and one score. The Wolves' leading receiver Brandon Lee was Mejia's top target yet again, picking up 143 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns.

Ozona's win bumped their record up to 7-0. As for Colorado, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-7.

Everything came up roses for Ozona against Colorado in their previous meeting back in October of 2024, as the team secured a 53-20 victory. In that matchup, the Lions amassed a halftime lead of 37-14, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Friday.
