Softball Preview: Cypress Centurions vs. Fountain Valley Barons

The Cypress Centurions will take on the Fountain Valley Barons in a tournament on Thursday. Cypress is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt wants to keep things rolling.

Cypress saw some tournament action on Saturday. They had just enough and edged out Irvine 6-5.

Alexis 'Chach' Stamper looked comfortable as she struck out six batters over 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Makayla Bishop was excellent, scoring a run while going 2-for-4. Tia Hernandez also deserves some recognition as she scored her first run of the season.

Cypress hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Irvine struck out seven times.

Meanwhile, while Fountain Valley put up some runs on Wednesday, the same can't be said for Sunny Hills. Fountain Valley skirted past Sunny Hills 1-0. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Barons.

Not much got past Courtney Kols, who gave up just five hits to keep Sunny Hills off the board.

At the plate, Fountain Valley's win was truly a team effort as two different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Ella Kim, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

Cypress' victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-0. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.0 runs over those games. As for Fountain Valley, their record now sits at 2-0.
