Softball Recap: Walden Grove Extends Winning Streak to Three

Walden Grove had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 13.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. They blew past the Safford Bulldogs 13-2. That's more bragging rights for the Red Wolves, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Walden Grove let Isabel Higuera and Natalie Holzer run wild. Higuera went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI, while Holzer went 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. Those three hits gave Higuera a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Patricia Mejia, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.

They weren't the only one making solid contact: Walden Grove kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in five consecutive matchups.

Walden Grove pushed their record up to 8-6 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.3 runs over those games. As for Safford, their loss dropped their record down to 8-8.

Coming up, Walden Grove will head out to challenge Mica Mountain at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Safford, they will welcome Thatcher at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The Eagles have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.94 runs per game on average), something the Bulldogs will no doubt try to take advantage of.
