Baseball Game Preview: Archbishop McNicholas Rockets vs. Turpin Spartans

The Archbishop McNicholas Rockets will head out to face off against the Turpin Spartans at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. The last three games Archbishop McNicholas has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

Archbishop McNicholas took a six-run loss the last time they faced off against Chaminade Julienne Catholic, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Rockets skirted past the Eagles 4-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Rockets have posted against the Eagles since May 13, 2022.

Archbishop McNicholas got a great performance from Nathan Kramer as he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out ten over six innings pitched. Kramer has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Archbishop McNicholas' win was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Nate Colyer, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Meanwhile, Turpin got the win against Milford on Friday by a conclusive 8-2. The result was nothing new for the Spartans, who have now won five matches by six runs or more so far this season.

Archbishop McNicholas is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.2 runs over those games. As for Turpin, they pushed their record up to 9-1 with the win, which was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Archbishop McNicholas came out on top in a nail-biter against Turpin in their previous meeting back in May of 2023, sneaking past 1-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Rockets since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
