Recap: West Grand Mustangs vs. Lake County Panthers
The West Grand Mustangs's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fourth straight loss. They had to suffer through a rough 64-19 loss at the hands of Lake County. West Grand was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 39-11.
Several Mustangs players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Kai Edson, who scored seven points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Edson has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Cooper Martinson, who scored two points along with eight rebounds.
Isaiah Martinez continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Lake County, dropping a double-double on 20 points and 12 rebounds. The matchup was Martinez's sixth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Jason Ayers, who scored eight points along with ten steals.
West Grand bumped their record down to 1-4 with that defeat, which was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Lake County, the win got them back to even at 3-3.
West Grand's road trip will continue as they head out to face Clear Creek at 7:00 p.m. on December 19th. Hopefully Clear Creek focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up eight on Thursday. Lake County will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on DSST: Montview at 2:00 p.m. on January 6, 2024. DSST: Montview will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak.
