Soccer Game Preview: Palma vs. Gonzales

The Palma Chieftains and the Gonzales Spartans will compete for holiday cheer at 1:00 p.m. on Friday.

Palma is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to five goals two weeks ago, they were much more limited against Leadership on Wednesday. They lost 4-1 to Leadership.

Meanwhile, Gonzales waltzed into their matchup on Friday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They had just enough and edged the Trailblazers out 2-1. Given the Spartans' advantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 128th, while the Trailblazers are ranked 519th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Jorge Uribe and Omar Gonzalez scored both of Gonzales' goals, bringing their combined season tally to eight goals.

Palma's loss dropped their record down to 2-2. As for Gonzales, their victory bumped their record up to 4-1-3.

Palma beat Gonzales 3-1 in their previous matchup back in December of 2023. Does Palma have another victory up their sleeve, or will Gonzales turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
