Softball Recap: Nine Straight Home Victories for Normal University

Normal University had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 11-run drubbing they dealt MacArthur on Tuesday. The Pioneers blew past the Generals 13-2. The Pioneers' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Emmerson Steward was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That home run was her first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Molly Jones, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in two of her three plate appearances.

Normal University pushed their record up to 2-4 with the win, which was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.9 runs on average over those games. As for MacArthur, they are on a 13-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-4.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Normal University will challenge Springfield at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Pioneers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Senators have averaged an impressive 6.9 runs per game this season. As for MacArthur, they will face off against Taylorville at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
