Baseball Recap: Make It Five in a Row for Vista Del Lago

Vista del Lago had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 11-run drubbing they dealt University Prep on Monday. The Eagles' pitchers stepped up to hand the Panthers an 11-0 shutout. The Eagles not only won on Monday, but they posted their biggest win since April 3, 2024 (when they won 12-0).

Ryan Lafortune looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over four innings pitched. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one walk any time he's pitched this season.

At the plate, Conner Gastelum was excellent, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March of 2024. Tyler Bolyard was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Vista del Lago always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .519. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as University Prep only posted an OBP of .167.

The victory (which was Vista del Lago's fifth in a row) raised their record to 15-7. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.2 runs over those games. As for University Prep, their loss dropped their record down to 11-6-1.

Coincidentally, Vista del Lago and University Prep will both be playing Narbonne the next time they take the field. The Eagles will head out to face the Gauchos at 4:30 p.m. on Monday, while the Panthers will play them later in the day, at 7:00 p.m.
