Softball Recap: New London Find Success

The New London Bulldogs beat the Laconia Spartans 7-4 on Saturday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Bulldogs.

Ellie Winkelman was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.

In other batting news, Aubree Schmude was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with two doubles and one RBI. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kiley Peterson, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one double.

New London hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in three consecutive contests.

New London's victory bumped their record up to 3-9. As for Laconia, their defeat dropped their record down to 14-6-1.

Looking ahead, New London will face off against Waupun at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Laconia, they are taking a road trip to square off against Luxemburg-Casco at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
