Softball Game Preview: Berry Cardinals vs. Myers Park Mustangs

Berry is 0-6 against Myers Park since March of 2022 but things could change on Thursday. The Berry Cardinals will venture away from home to face off against the Myers Park Mustangs at 5:00 p.m. Berry has given up an average of 13.4 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.

Berry lost 23-8 to East Mecklenburg on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last matchup, Myers Park made sure to put some runs up on the board against Olympic on Tuesday. Myers Park's pitchers stepped up to hand Olympic a 17-0 shutout. That 17 run margin sets a new team best for the Mustangs this season.

Regan Godman made a splash while hitting and pitching. She tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, she gave up only zero earned runs, the fewest she's had since back in April of 2024. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. What's more, she posted two RBI, the most she's had since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, Myers Park let Olivia Picot and Camille Christian run wild. Picot scored two runs while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances, while Christian scored two runs while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. That's the most runs Christian has posted since back in April of 2024. Madeline Shuford also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.

Myers Park always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .824. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Myers Park's record now sits at 3-4. As for Berry, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-7.

Berry suffered a grim 16-0 defeat to Myers Park in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can Berry avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
