Baseball Recap: Ignacio Comes Up Short

Ignacio had lost three straight at home, but on Tuesday they dropped down to 10-9 to make it four. They came up short against the Pagosa Springs Pirates, falling 15-4. The Bobcats were not able to make up for their defeat to the Pirates from their previous meeting back in May of 2024.

Ignacio saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ambrose Valdez, who went 1-for-2 with one run. Gabe Archuletta was another, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.

As for Pagosa Springs, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 12-10. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.5 runs over those games.

On Pagosa Springs' side, Taylor Wells made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off two hits. Wells has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs. He has become a key player for Pagosa Springs: the team is 5-2 when he posts at least two runs, but 7-8 otherwise.

In other batting news, Noah Bellina was a standout: he got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs and one RBI. Pagosa Springs is undefeated when Bellina posts two or more runs, but 5-10 otherwise. Aaron Sowle also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Pagosa Springs beat Ignacio by a score of 15-6 later that day.
