Football Game Preview: Wheat Ridge Farmers vs. Evergreen Cougars + How To Watch

The Wheat Ridge Farmers are taking a road trip to take on the Evergreen Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Wheat Ridge will be strutting in after a win while Evergreen will be coming in after a defeat.

Wheat Ridge took a loss when they played away from home last Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. They walked away with a 29-20 victory over Skyview. The Farmers' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

A big part of Wheat Ridge's win came down to the chemistry between Jyles Ballenger and his top target Isaiah Osei. Ballenger rushed for 80 yards and one TD on only six carries while Osei gained 157 total yards. The dominant performance also gave Ballenger a new career-high in passing yards (105).

Wheat Ridge was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 284 rushing yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Skyview only rushed for 109.

Meanwhile, Evergreen unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Thursday. They took a 35-30 hit to the loss column at the hands of Green Mountain.

Wheat Ridge will have to keep a close watch on Tom Van Den Bos and Gianni Volpe, a pair of players who had a big impact on Evergreen's prior game. Van Den Bos threw for 228 yards and a pair of touchdowns, while Volpe gained 151 total yards. Karrik Boyle did his part by putting the 'special' in special teams, booting in three field goals and three extra points.

Special teams played a big role in the game for Evergreen, adding 12 points to the final score. All came from Boyle: he went 3-for-3 kicking field goals for nine points, and 3-for-3 again kicking extra points for an additional three.

Wheat Ridge's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-7. As for Evergreen, their loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 5-2.

Wheat Ridge might still be hurting after the 27-6 defeat they got from Evergreen in their previous matchup back in November of 2024. Thankfully for the Farmers, Josh Bittner (who rushed for 121 yards and three scores) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
