Softball Recap: Wartburg Central Victorious

Wartburg Central took a seven-run loss the last time they faced off against Coalfield, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Bulldogs had just enough and edged out the Yellow Jackets 5-3. This was a revenge game for the Bulldogs: when they faced off against the Yellow Jackets last Monday, they had to take a 11-4 defeat.

Wartburg Central's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 12-8. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Coalfield, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 21-5-2.

Coming up, Wartburg Central will face off against Greenback at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The Cherokees have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed eight runs per game on average), something the Bulldogs will no doubt try to take advantage of. Coalfield has already played their next matchup (against Oakdale), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
