Softball Recap: Calhoun's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Friday

After some red-hot attacks at the plate in their last four games, Calhoun finally came back down to earth on Friday. They fell just short of the Springfield Senators by a score of 1-0. The Warriors' loss signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.

Audrey Gilman spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on five hits and racked up 14 Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in 11 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Calhoun saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Layla Longnecker, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base. That stolen base was Longnecker's first of the season.

Calhoun's defeat dropped their record down to 9-3. As for Springfield, they pushed their record up to 8-1 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road.

Calhoun and Springfield should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings. The Warriors (ranked 98th) will meet West Central co-op [Winchester-Bluffs] (ranked 367th) at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, Springfield will square off against Lincoln at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday with a big rank advantage (101 vs. 260).
