League recap: Western International win leads to rise in state rank

Western International moved up to 396 from 473 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in Detroit Public - West. A 20-18 win over Northwestern helped the Cowboys improve their standing.

Western International was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from fifth to third in the league. Earlier in the week, Joe Schwartz's team defeated the Colts 20-18.

Cody's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. DeMarco Gulley threw for 88 yards and Kenyon Bell had 43 yards receiving. On the ground Gulley chipped in 106 yards. Eddie Fluker helped Cody's passing attack out by catching two balls for 25 yards.

Cody's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Comets feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Gulley has thrown for 675 yards and 10 touchdowns this season, while Bell has seven catches for 190 yards. Gulley also leads the league in rushing with 409 yards.

A big matchup in Detroit Public - West this week will be when the Cowboys take on the Comets. Western International is currently in third, while Cody is in second.

The Cowboys made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 10,189 from 11,948. The improvement was the result of 20-18 victory over Northwestern last week.
