Soccer Game Preview: Wakeland vs. Turner

The Wakeland Wolverines will head out on the road to challenge the Turner Lions at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Wakeland proved they can win big on Tuesday (they won by four) and on Friday they proved they can win the close ones too. Their defense stepped up to hand Lone Star a 1-0 shutout. Given the Wolverines' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas soccer rankings (they are ranked 11th, while the Rangers are ranked 263rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

The home team had come away the winner the last four times Turner and Reedy had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. Turner walked away with a 2-0 win over Reedy on Friday. The game was the first time Turner has beaten Reedy on their pitch since March 29, 2018.

Wakeland has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 11 of their last 13 contests. That somehow still isn't as good as their 16-1-2 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 37 goals over those 13 games. Turner's record now sits at 8-6-4.

Wakeland skirted past Turner 2-1 in their previous matchup back in February. The rematch might be a little tougher for Wakeland since the squad won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
