Baseball Recap: South Lake Cavaliers vs. Harper Woods Pioneers
South Lake had lost 11 straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Friday they dropped their record down to 3-8 to make it 12. They lost 11-0 to the Harper Woods Pioneers. The matchup marked the first time this season in which the Cavaliers were not able to get on the board.
As for Harper Woods, their win ended a nine-game drought at home and bumped them up to 5-15. They not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since April 12th (when they won 13-0).
For Harper Woods' part, Kameron Garfield made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out 14 over five innings pitched. Those 14 strikeouts gave Garfield a new career-high. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one triple. He has become a key player for Harper Woods: the team is 5-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 0-14 otherwise.
In other batting news, Kwintyn Powers was incredible, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Ecari West, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
