Preview: Brattleboro Bears vs. Rutland Raiders
Brattleboro has enjoyed a three-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will wrap up 2023 with a road trip to face off against the Rutland Raiders at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Brattleboro focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 25 on Wednesday.
Last Wednesday, Brattleboro came up short against Otter Valley and fell 64-52.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Keagan Systo, who scored 20 points along with nine rebounds. Those nine rebounds set a new season-high mark for him. Johnathon Haskins was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 14 points and ten rebounds.
Meanwhile, Rutland faced Hartford in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Rutland strolled past Hartford with points to spare on Wednesday, taking the game 46-28.
Brattleboro bumped their record down to 2-4 with that defeat, which was their third straight at home. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 51.0 points per game. As for Rutland, their victory bumped their record up to 4-2.
Brattleboro suffered a grim 58-34 defeat to Rutland in their previous matchup back in February. Can Brattleboro avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
