Baseball Recap: Decatur Makes It Five in a Row on the Road

Decatur had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the six-run drubbing they dealt Auburn Mountainview on Friday. The Golden Gators blew past the Lions 8-2. Considering the Golden Gators have won eight matches by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Dylan Reano made a splash while hitting and pitching. He pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances. He was even better at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high.

In other pitching news, Broq Powlus looked comfortable as he pitched 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one hit in six consecutive appearances.

Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Cervantes (CJ) Gatterson, who went 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Nate Gilmore, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and two doubles.

Decatur was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Auburn Mountainview only posted a batting average of .208.

Decatur's win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-1-1. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.6 runs over those games. As for Auburn Mountainview, they now have a losing record of 7-8.

Decatur will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Lions: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
