Recap: Telluride Miners vs. Nucla Mustangs
It was a good run, but the Telluride Miners unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Friday. They took a 61-55 hit to the loss column at the hands of Nucla. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Telluride's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Grayson Berry, who scored 19 points. Berry has been hot recently, having posted 17 or more points the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Townes Merritt, who scored 17 points.
Nucla got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Brycen Rummel out in front who scored 24 points along with six assists and two steals. Rummel is trending in the right direction, as he's improved his point production for three games straight. The team also got some help courtesy of Steele Arnold, who scored 18 points.
Telluride's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 11-5. As for Nucla, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 10-6.
Telluride will head out on the road to face off against Dove Creek at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Telluride is coming into the contest with eight straight defeats on the road, meaning Dove Creek will have to defend against a squad hungry for a win. As for Nucla, they will be playing at home against Plateau Valley at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Plateau Valley has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 982 points over their last 15 games.
