Basketball Recap: Independent Comes Up Short

Independent lost against Emporia back in December of 2019 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Independent Panthers were beaten by the Emporia Spartans 79-15. While losing is never fun, the Panthers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 307th, while the Spartans are ranked 63rd).

Emporia's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Nolan Jacob, who went 5 for 9 on his way to 12 points and four steals. Another player making a difference was Harrison Trelc, who went 5 of 7 en route to 11 points and four steals.

Independent's defeat dropped their record down to 0-8-1. As for Emporia, their victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 8-4.

Independent has already played their next game, an 83-23 loss against Independence on the 4th. As for Emporia, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 65-43 win against Topeka on the 4th.
