Basketball Preview: Old Suwanee Christian Conquerors vs. Trinity Prep Lions
Old Suwanee Christian has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. Having just played yesterday, they will head out on the road to face off against the Trinity Prep Lions at 7:30 p.m. on February 2nd. Old Suwanee Christian has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 576 points over their last eight contests.
Old Suwanee Christian proved they can win big last Thursday (they won by 28) but on Thursday they proved they can win the close ones too. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Oakwood Christian and snuck past 69-67. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Old Suwanee Christian to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jon Rojas, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 12 rebounds. Rojas hasn't dropped below 16 points for seven straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Amari Chatman, who scored 21 points along with eight rebounds.
Meanwhile, Trinity Prep had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 20.3 points), and they went ahead and made it four last Tuesday. They came out on top against Peachtree Academy by a score of 56-47.
Trinity Prep got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Shane Harvey out in front who scored 12 points along with six rebounds. Another player making a difference was Ace Stevens, who almost dropped a double-double on 11 points and nine rebounds.
Old Suwanee Christian pushed their record up to 15-7 with that victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 76.8 points per game. As for Trinity Prep, their victory bumped their record up to 10-12.
Friday's game is shaping up to be a masterclass in shooting: Old Suwanee Christian have been dynamite from deep this season, having made 39.9% of their threes per game. However, it's not like Trinity Prep struggles in that department as they've made 37.8% of their threes this season. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out. Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other basketball content.
