Basketball Game Preview: St. Augustine Yellow Jackets vs. Ponte Vedra Sharks

St. Augustine is 1-9 against Ponte Vedra since December of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The St. Augustine Yellow Jackets will be playing at home against the Ponte Vedra Sharks at 7:30 p.m. St. Augustine will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.

St. Augustine is returning to their home court after beating Tocoi Creek on theirs, despite the fact Tocoi Creek has dominated at home this season. St. Augustine snuck past Tocoi Creek with a 61-55 win on Tuesday. The victory was all the more spectacular given the Yellow Jackets' disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 126th, while the Toros are ranked 39th).

Meanwhile, Ponte Vedra suffered their biggest loss since March 7, 2024 on Wednesday. They came up short against Andrew Jackson, falling 74-54. The Sharks were down 59-34 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.

St. Augustine will have to contain Trace Westercamp as he made an impact in Ponte Vedra's last game. He went 7 of 10 en route to 17 points and six boards. Maddox Palmer was another key player, putting up 13 points and seven rebounds.

Ponte Vedra has traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 11-7 record this season. As for St. Augustine, their win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-2.
