The Heritage Eagles will venture away from home to challenge the Chaparral Wolverines at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Heritage has given up an average of 7.6 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
On Monday, Heritage came up short against Rock Canyon and fell 12-9. The defeat continues a trend for the Eagles in their meetings with the Jaguars: they've now lost four in a row.

Mason VanWyk was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. He has become a key player for Heritage: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 2-9 otherwise. James Long was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Meanwhile, Chaparral hadn't done well against Douglas County recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. The Wolverines were the clear victors by a 10-2 margin over the Huskies. The victory was familiar territory for the Wolverines, who have now won five games in a row.
Beckett Bacon spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on five hits and racked up eight Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one walk in seven consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Ryne Dodson was a standout: he scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-4. The team also got some help courtesy of Grant Larson, who scored two runs while going 3-for-4.
Chaparral was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .455. The last time their batting average was this high was back in May of 2024.
Heritage's loss dropped their record down to 4-10. As for Chaparral, their record now sits at 7-4.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Wednesday. Heritage hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.6 home runs per game. However, it's not like Chaparral struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.5 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Heritage might still be hurting after the 16-3 defeat they got from Chaparral when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Can the Eagles avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
