River Valley (Correctionville, Iowa) came into Saturday's contest ranked No. 10 in Iowa, but was stunned by
Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire (Ruthven, Iowa), 28-24. Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire was ranked at No. 14 in the MaxPreps Freeman Rankings for Iowa coming into the week.
After nabbing the lead on a touchdown pass by
Brennan Riedemann, the Wolverines went into halftime with a 18-14 lead. The Titans took the lead to win the game on a
Marcus Girres touchdown run in the fourth quarter.
Despite scoring six points in the third, Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire still trailed by four points going into the fourth quarter. But eight points in the fourth helped GTRA pull out the victory.
The Ruthven school didn't regain the lead for good until the the fourth quarter when Girres ran for a touchdown.
The defeat comes as a step back for River Valley, which notched a 70-6 victory over Clay Central-Everly in its previous outing. The loss snapped River Valley's two-game winning streak. With the win the Titans extended their winning streak to four games.
