Baseball Game Preview: Corning Cardinals vs. Gridley Bulldogs

Corning is 1-9 against Gridley since May of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Cardinals will look to defend their home field against the Bulldogs at 4:00 p.m.

It was a proper cat-fight when Corning faced off against Oroville on Thursday. The Cardinals fell just short of the Tigers by a score of 4-3.

Corning saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brandon Cordova, who went 2-for-3 with one RBI.

Meanwhile, Gridley had just enough and edged out Narbonne 7-5 on Wednesday.

The team relied heavily on Gus Stogsdill, who went 1-for-2 with three RBI and one stolen base. Eli Punzo was another, going 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Gridley hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their strikeout total in three consecutive matchups.

Gridley's victory bumped their record up to 13-8. As for Corning, their loss dropped their record down to 2-12.

Corning suffered a grim 10-2 defeat to Gridley in their previous meeting back in March of 2024. Can the Cardinals avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
