Basketball Game Preview: Northfield Norsemen vs. Maconaquah Braves

Northfield is 2-8 against Maconaquah since February of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Northfield Norsemen will host the Maconaquah Braves at 7:45 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

On Saturday, Northfield was fully in charge, breezing past North White 57-16. That 41 point margin sets a new team best for the Norsemen this season.

Meanwhile, Maconaquah fought the good fight in their overtime match against Southwood on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Knights by a score of 78-75. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Braves came into the game with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 122nd, while the Knights are ranked 278th).

Maconaquah's loss was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 5-1 and their overall record down to 13-5. As for Northfield, the win got them back to even at 9-9.

Northfield took a serious blow against Maconaquah when the teams last played back in February of 2024, falling 78-47. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Maconaquah's Josiah Ball, who went 9-for-19 en route to 22 points along with eight rebounds and four steals. Now that Northfield knows the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? There's only one way to find out.
