It's playoff time, and Madison County had no trouble coming through when it counted. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Union County Fightin' Tigers on Thursday, sneaking past 4-2. The win was nothing new for the Cowboys as they're now sitting on ten straight.

Alden Bass made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out ten over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in two of her three plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Anna-Kayte Smith was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Ryleigh Bass also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Madison County hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in three consecutive games.

Madison County's victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 19-1. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Union County, their loss ended a seven-game streak of away wins and brought them to 17-9.

Coming up, Madison County will welcome Branford at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Cowboys 2.3, the Buccaneers 3.2) so any runs scored will be well earned. Union County does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
