Softball Preview: Marquette Redmen vs. Negaunee Miners

The Marquette Redmen have the luxury of staying home for another game and will welcome the Negaunee Miners at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

On Wednesday, Marquette got the win against Westwood by a conclusive 10-2.

Charlye Swajanen made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits (and only one walk). Swajanen has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive pitching appearances. Swajanen was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with a home run and four RBI.

In other batting news, Cece Fuller was incredible, scoring two runs while going 3-for-3. Ady Trapani was another key contributor, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.

Meanwhile, Negaunee put another one in the bag on Tuesday to keep their perfect season alive. They blew past Ishpeming 18-8. That's two games straight that Negaunee has won by exactly ten runs.

Marquette's victory bumped their record up to 8-6. As for Negaunee, they pushed their record up to 8-0 with that win, which was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season.
