Softball Recap: Union Now 7-1 over Last Eight Games

Union barely beat Sebastopol the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Yellowjackets put the hurt on the Bobcats with a sharp 7-1 win on Thursday. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 2-1 last Tuesday.

Alanee Wheeler spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on four hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Destiny Moulds was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-4. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. Abigail Cleaveland was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.

Union is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-11 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.9 runs on average over those games. As for Sebastopol, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 19-4.

Coming up, Union will face off against Scott Central at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Sebastopol, they will challenge Southeast Lauderdale at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. The Bobcats' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Tigers have averaged an impressive 7 runs per game this season.
