Winston Academy fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Canton Academy on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Panthers by a score of 10-9. The Patriots' loss signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.

Jayson McMillin made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.

Winston Academy's defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 10-1 and their overall record down to 17-8. As for Canton Academy, their record is now 4-11.

While Winston Academy had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
