Westlake is 9-1 against Rocky River since April of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Demons will look to defend their home field against the Pirates at 5:00 p.m. Westlake has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the game with five straight losses, while Rocky River will come in with four straight wins.
Things were looking good for Westlake after they put the first points on the board on Saturday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They took a 13-10 hit to the loss column at the hands of Holy Name. While the Demons didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Green Wave 6-0 in the first period.
Katherine England was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. Another player making a difference was Riley Knapp, who scored two runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-4.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Rocky River). Everything went their way against Lorain on Tuesday as they made off with a 22-1 victory. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded the Pirates with their most commanding win of the season.
Reagan Kane was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out ten over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-5 with seven RBI, one run, and one double. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 3.8 RBI per game.
In other batting news, Maggie Heigle and Elizabeth Smalley did most of the damage at the plate: Heigle scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances, while Smalley went 1-for-4 with four runs, three RBI, and one triple. That's the most runs Smalley has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Leigh Konet, who scored a run while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
Rocky River kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive contests.
Westlake's defeat dropped their record down to 0-3. As for Rocky River, their win bumped their record up to 4-0.
Westlake was able to grind out a solid victory over Rocky River in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, winning 8-3. Do the Demons have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Pirates turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
